Health and Social Care Level 3

The Advanced Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care is open to anyone working in Health & Social Care.

This is the main level 3 qualification requirement by the Quality Care Commission in England and the Care Councils in Wales and Northern Ireland and is the recognised qualification for care workers and senior care workers in Health and Social Care.

This wide ranging Diploma through City and Guilds covers the skills and knowledge needed to care for others in a broad range of health or social care settings. 

It is flexible to suit all fields of health and social care. Learners can choose a pathway that suits their particular role – for example, working with people with a learning disability, people with dementia or children and young people.

To take the Level 3 qualification learners must already  be working in a care setting . For the Level 2 qualification learners may not have any previous experience, or could be working in care and want recognition of current skills.

The above qualification consists of;

  • Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3
  • Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care Level 3
  • Functional Skills English Level 2
  • Functional Skills Maths Level 2
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

Qualification Structure

To achieve the L3 Diploma in Health & Social Care, learners must achieve a minimum of 58 credits.  The Generic Pathway consists of;

  • 28 Credits from the Mandatory units in Group A
  • A minimum of 2 credits and a maximum of 7 credits from the optional units in Group B
  • At least 23 credits from the optional unit in Group C

Other pathways available are Dementia and Adults With Learning Disabilities.

Level 3 Mandatory Units are;

  • SHC31Promote Communication in health, social care or childrens and young people’s setting
  • Engage in personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s setting
  • Promote equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and young people’s setting
  • Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s setting
  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • The role of the health and social care worker
  • Promote person centred approaches in health and social care
  • Promote and implement health and safety in health and social care
  • Promote good practice in handling information in health and social care setting

Technical Certificate – Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care.

To achieve the L3 Certificate in Preparing to work in Adult Social Care (QCF) candidates will need to complete 21 credits from 9 mandatory units assignments:

  • Principles of communication in adult social care settings
  • Principles of personal development in adult social care settings
  • Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion in adult social care setting
  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young peoples settings
  • Understand the role of the social care worker
  • Understand person centred approaches in adult social care settings
  • Understand health and safety in  social care settings
  • Understand how to handle information in social care settings

The programme consists of assessment of performance by work based observation, product evidence, witness testimonies and questioning, plus assignments and projects. 

Additional support is provided via email, Skype and on the telephone with the Assessor and the Administration team throughout the programme.

Funding

Full funding for the Apprenticeship in Dental Nursing is available for learners aged 16 – 18 years old.

Aged 19 and over there could be a contribution towards the cost of the qualification dependant on funding criteria and candidates prior achievement.

Duration

The Apprenticeship qualification takes up to fifteen months to complete.

Venue

 This qualification is delivered in the workplace.
